I can't explain in detail now, but Google's tech incompetence / malice had temporarily locked me out of the Blogger dashboard and comments section. That's why I've been MIA here for a week. Fortunately I found a work-around, but I don't know how long that will last. It was nothing ideological or anything like that, purely technical, but it was insanely malicious, and I no longer have trust in Google to be a reliable guardian and steward of the Blogger / Blogspot platform.
So I am moving all blogging activities over to Substack -- same name as here, "akinokure":
https://akinokure.substack.com
I will do long-form blogging there, and they have a built-in micro-blogging feed called "Notes", which will replace my blogging in the comments section here.
I will also try to do long-term back-up of this blog at WordPress, "The Library of Akinokure":
https://libraryofakinokure.wordpress.com
That will not involve micro-blogging, or backing up random comments and observations -- the stuff that's really worth preserving. Possibly migrating the whole thing from here, over there, or maybe just a "greatest hits" compilation. We'll see.
These are all still somewhat up-in-the-air, but I have to leave this final message while I can still use this work-around. The pace will be the same over there as it has been here, depending on how inspired I am du jour.
But, it will be the same cliff-dwelling sage, the same location atop the Cliffs of Wisdom -- you'll just be taking an alternate route up the mountain. The Substack route, rather than the Blogspot route. It will still be me, and my charmingly eclectic ever-shifting range of topics! I will await you at the end of the Substack route up the mountain! ^_^

URGENT: Moving blog to Substack! Still using "akinokure". I will not delete this blog, just letting it go dormant here. Don't know if I'll update further, but will always have the option to... until more tech malice by Google.
ReplyDeleteThis is just repeating in the comments section what the main post says, in case you're reading the comment feed rather than the post feed.
TL;DR --

Now I just need to make the new blog *look* more like the old blog... that may require a good ol' UNDER CONSTRUCTION animated gif, like back in '90s Geocities era, hehe. Just bear with me on the visual presentation side, OK? ^_^
Again, I may dabble in this Blogspot site for a little while longer, to ease the transition, but I am beginning the shifting of posting duties to Substack, and archive / museum duties to WordPress.
IDK exactly how long the transition will take, but none of this was my fault -- it was a totally out-of-the-blue demolition job by Google! I'm dealing with it the best I can.
Nonstop Nihongo New Year is still going at FULL STRENGTH! Visit the WordPress site (very sparse visually, I know, it's not my fault), where I've already posted multiple new discoveries of Dene-Yeniseian origins of Japonic words -- some of them leading to entirely new reconstructions for the entire Wa-Dene-Yeniseian family! ^_^
ReplyDeleteI will re-post those at Substack soon, and post anything new on that topic, and other other topic, at Substack.
I just signed up for WordPress first before Substack, so that's where all my posting energy went into during this Blogspot limbo period. But I'm planning to use WordPress for archives, including the linguistics stuff, but probably collated into very long posts. Whereas Substack will be for posting each building block as it occurs to me -- and then long-term collection of them will be at WordPress.
Happy Valentine's Day to all the vtuber honey bunnies! ^_^ Including the seiso nephilim princess, Irys, who serenaded us with love songs even though she was feeling a bit blue herself -- that's the Yamato damashii!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I haven't been able to give shout-outs to any vtuber during the past week or so, while I was the victim of Google's pointless tech obstruction. But now that I'm back, I will say I'm very glad to see Peko-chan playing Clock Tower -- an iconic Gothic horror game based on fear, violence, and the sublime, rather than disgust / gore as is common in 21st-century horror games.
And that soundtrack is killer, so to speak!
I will probably be talking about vtubers in the "Notes" tab of my Substack, not in standalone posts. So if you're curious what I have to say, that's where the micro-blogging will happen...
And maybe a little bit here as well, to ease into the transition. We'll see.
But I really don't know how long this work-around will remain in effect. So plan on shifting your attention from Blogspot to Substack, going forward.
I'm so glad I got to get in these final messages to all you guys, my dear mountain-scaling audience... otherwise I was planning to launch a "help me find my friends" campaign on Substack itself, or God forbid sign up for a Twitter account! Now I don't have to! Anything but social media, yuck.
I did sign up for Reddit, though, which is where I got the absolutely beautiful help that let me work-around the pointless Google conspiracy, for which I am eternally grateful.
My advice if you've never signed up for Reddit before -- don't bother going to most subreddits, only go there for specific niche help groups, and perhaps message the mods first to give them a heads up that you're a noob, but have a desperate problem that cannot wait until kissing 10,000 asses to acquire sufficient karma to post your first post. If the help group is worth it, the mods will agree, and you'll get the help you need.
Don't even bother with 99% of the subreddits -- they want you to upvote, comment, engage, etc., for 12 months before the teacher (mod) calls on you to share your little image for show-and-tell, which is what most of the subreddits are these days. Not worth a real person's time, only a place for ass-kissers and circle-jerkers -- outside of dedicated niche help / support groups.
Anyway, I look forward to POSTING THE UNLOCKED MYSTERIES FOREVER -- not even the Google juggernaut can get in my way! Now you know at least 2 other places to look for me, if for some reason you think I've "gone dark" for awhile.
De-Google your life as much as possible -- I already had to a large extent, but now I've abruptly been made to de-Google my blogging as well, by switching to Substack and WordPress. Loyalty is a two-way street! Once they launch arbitrary campaigns to obstruct the writers, it will only get worse -- and pretty soon they may very well give Blogspot the Geocities treatment that Yahoo did at the end of their hijacking of Geocities. Total domain demolition. It could very well happen, and I am no longer going to sit around and wait for the other shoe to drop.
Same cliff-top dwelling -- just a different route up the side of the mountain! True, the very end of the route is a bit under construction, and may look a little different, but over the short-to-medium term, I'll make it feel as comfy and COMPUTER-LIKE and CYBERSPACEY as this beloved, cherished abode has always felt... we'll all get through it together. ^_^
I was actually considering posting as a namefag on /vt/ at 4chan, in order to spread the word among the vtuber scene, since I don't think any of them have Substacks, and I would never be able to leave a post at Hololive's subreddit or reply to the talents on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI don't post at 4chan, never have. But I was so desperate, I was considering not only taking the plunge -- but under the full-on assault I'd be receiving as a namefag, just to get the word out to the fans, and of course the vtuber talents themselves, who lurk there.
But now that I've implemented a work-around to the Google conspiracy, the fans and talents can read about it straight from the source. ^_^
Just be aware that I'll start moving vtuber discussions, along with everything else, over to Substack...
In case Irys in particular is lurking still, here's a bittersweet "help you through the blues" song that Dadrys would approve of. "Drive" by the Cars, from 1984. Whatever we can do to help you through it. ^_^
