On an individual level, if you care about whatever boys you may have, for god's sake raise them in a cheap-land state so that they'll have a much smaller chance of going through their teens and 20s without ever having a girlfriend. Talk about perpetual juvenile status. You want grandchildren sometime before you die, right? And on a societal level, if you want to keep semi-marginal males from turning into bitter losers who vote for family-unfriendly policies, make sure there is plenty of cheap land so that they at least have an honest shot at getting a girlfriend, rather than being shut out of the game completely due to living in a shoebox or with their parents forever.

This is the kind of strategic thinking that prospective parents almost never, ever, ever do. No one ever thinks about the future they are creating for their kids. Even the high IQ Chinese have more male than female kids, not thinking that "Gee, maybe our son has a hard time finding a girl-friend or a wife" if everyone prefers sons to daughters.

I think people have kinds more out of vanity than any other reason.kurt9https://www.blogger.com/profile/02101147267959016924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-69866592071499182582010-08-04T00:39:37.930-04:002010-08-04T00:39:37.930-04:00I think this ultimately comes back to the family/n...I think this ultimately comes back to the family/non-family schism. I grade the family scale simply. 1-single people, 2-married people, 3-married people with children.

People inevitably vote out of self-interest. I doubt many single people care about the interests of the prototypical family unit with children, and vice versa. This divide is emblematic of a deeper set of incompatible values. Home prices are merely one of many problematic variables which tends to cluster around and influence people who obviously care to own homes, including people who desire to own one but don't. The fact that housing is cheap may in itself indicate a parallel social phenomena common to those who would inhabit such an area.

I question whether home costs are in fact a red herring. An Unmarried manhttp://www.phoenixism.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-14408036548664896462010-08-03T16:40:36.981-04:002010-08-03T16:40:36.981-04:00Aren't Mormons on their mission forbidden from...Aren't Mormons on their mission forbidden from dating? Although the effect is modest, there is a very strong correlation between housing prices and failure to get a girlfriend.

With regards to said losers voting for family-unfriendly policies, I looked into this on my sad excuse for a blog a year ago. Although I forgot to filter out gay men, it does seem even when this is done that male virgins are slightly more liberal (redistributionist) than their peers. This really makes no sense to me; I would think they would want to restore the balance in favor of affordable family formation.Jokah Macphersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04185675633464395897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-79767323077725125012010-08-03T08:52:32.409-04:002010-08-03T08:52:32.409-04:00"We expect video game addicts to be less popu..."We expect video game addicts to be less popular with girls, so if we find that cheap housing helps out even them, we're onto something"

I think that the real correlation here is between IQ and not doing well with the opposite sex.

People with higher IQs prefer dynamic entertainment like video games over more static entertainment.Alhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17327836181389523648noreply@blogger.com
