Most of the OK stuff from the past 20 years was a return to earlier forms -- Dookie by Green Day, the whole post-punk revival of the mid-2000s... I'd have to say early Smashing Pumpkins, but even that is 17 or more years old.agnostichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12967177967469961883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-52404453628345160612010-08-29T21:24:11.387-04:002010-08-29T21:24:11.387-04:00I meant "Muse" not "Epic" as t...I meant "Muse" not "Epic" as the band's name.PAnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-50741229124488323102010-08-29T21:14:24.791-04:002010-08-29T21:14:24.791-04:00It's a truism that contemporary rock is in cre...It's a truism that contemporary rock is in creative doldrums. By Rock, I mean white, guitar-driven, with no rap or R&B styling.

I'm mostly "meh" about Coldplay or Nickelback, and much of the new stuff comes across as recycled.

And funny you should mention large department stores playing good music. A week ago I was at Kohl's and heard an insanely cool, catchy song. I made it a point to memorize a line or two, and then googled it. It was Epic, "Resistance."

So there is at least one band cranking out good new stuff. Other suggestions?PAnoreply@blogger.com
