And of course everyone and their brother is moving to Atlanta, as part of the Sun Belt phenomenon. Even Charleston gets overwhelmed by snowbirds in the winter.

Nobody is overwhelming Mobile, Alabama during the winter, however. Nor is Tennessee positioning itself as the Silicon Valley of its region, the way North Carolina has been for awhile.

I think the upland South (southern Appalachia) has resisted making the Faustian bargain for growth and transplants because they're less diverse than the lowland coastal South (plantation South), where large black populations dilute the solidarity of white people to look out for one another.

And historically the white leaders of the lowland South didn't give a shit about their fellow whites, who they were so eager to replace with cheap foreign labor that they instigated a bloody war of secession over it.agnostichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12967177967469961883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-19610747336951720252015-06-30T17:57:52.657-04:002015-06-30T17:57:52.657-04:00To get this straight, the East Coast is one of the...To get this straight, the East Coast is one of the more settled areas, despite its stereotype as being status-striving.

I wonder what happens to transplants when equality begins. Do they go back to home region? Some thinktank did a report arguing that if there is a serious economic cownturn, a lot of people will leave the country to go to Latin America and East Asia. Transplants may be more likely to leave the country.Curtisnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-59911792685074062062015-06-30T17:38:28.920-04:002015-06-30T17:38:28.920-04:00Take Florida and the D.C. Metro area is a different animal for obvious reasons, and parts of Florida are basically just northern suburbs...with transplants from the same northern communities congregating in one area.
