Like getting snow on Christmas. :)agnostichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12967177967469961883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-5067515224261121272022-04-16T04:18:58.680-04:002022-04-16T04:18:58.680-04:00Fauna, are you a lurker here as well? :) Bossa nov...Fauna, are you a lurker here as well? :) Bossa nova / Brazil background during today's stream. Or my imagination is just over-active, and great minds think alike / synchronicity...

I nearly slid right out of my chair when she said her favorite kind of music is "[hesitates because she doesn't like the pretentious sound of the term...] post-punk revival". Not expected for someone born in the second half of the '90s, very cool.

That was definitely my favorite genre at her age, when it was still a new thing. Soundtrack of my life, I was hooked up to that sound so much. Going out to the Razzmatazz club in Barcelona every Friday and Saturday, back to back, in 2004 and early '05 (before coming back to America). Imagine every week there was something new by Franz Ferdinand, the Killers, Bloc Party, etc. And all very dance-friendly.

Clubs were still playing "Honest Mistake" by the Bravery well into the late 2000s. One of my faves to get down to, I don't even know how to describe it. It's so flowing and gliding, but also pounding and driving. It was like a badass version of ice-skating, idk hehe.

Dark blue designer jeans, white shirt, black tie, B&W glen plaid suit jacket, black boots. The whole dressy-edgy look of the 2000s. So carnivalesque, mixing up any and all categories. That all fell apart during the wokeness of the 2010s, but we don't need to talk about that now.

Between that little tangent, and Gura's edgy 2000s theme from the last karaoke, I'm *this close* to posting some old pics from that era. They keep instigating! (Not that I mind...)agnostichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12967177967469961883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-47649479742497740222022-04-15T02:37:37.370-04:002022-04-15T02:37:37.370-04:00Sharkalicious, definition: make them boys send don...Sharkalicious, definition: make them boys send dono's,
Think they're edgy, but I give 'em wedgies with an "Oh nyo!"

They retweet me, they can't yeet me
'Cause I'm meme-ing while I'm streaming
First I cheese 'em, then I "deez" 'em
Got no time to be appeasin'

Sharkalicious
And why u jelly, fishes?
I ain't them coomer bishes
My content so nutritious
Their only wish is
For my achievement to unlock
And now it's always simp o'clock
Until you tried it, don't you knock it

Sharkaliciousagnostichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12967177967469961883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-82311677939661129222022-04-14T15:26:17.511-04:002022-04-14T15:26:17.511-04:00The sharky chanteuse digs bossa nova, BTW, and one...The sharky chanteuse digs bossa nova, BTW, and one of her karaoke staples is "The Girl from Ipanema" (she even sings the Portuguese section). She would make great covers of the Nouvelle Vague covers (esp. from their first album).

Or apply the same formula to other songs you don't expect bossa nova for, but still touch on the theme of pining for a girl who doesn't know you exist... and that would have been too recent to have been featured on a 2000s Nouvelle Vague album.

"Teenage Dirtbag" by Gawr Gura, a la bossa nova! Hehe :)

I'd also like to hear her rendition of "Agua de Beber" by Astrud Gilberto & Jobim. A little more upbeat and jazzy than other classics of the genre.

It's all in Portuguese, but the lyrics are fairly simple and minimal, so it would be easier to learn than others. And the main refrain is nonsense speech anyways -- "Di ba di da..."agnostichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12967177967469961883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-71779698351239207902022-04-14T15:14:42.328-04:002022-04-14T15:14:42.328-04:00Right, but there wasn't a broader Brazil mania...Right, but there wasn't a broader Brazil mania in the '60s. The 2000s phenomenon affected nearly every domain of our culture. Even in music, it was only bossa nova, not samba or favela / urban funk or other dance music.agnostichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12967177967469961883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-41164449096115856822022-04-14T10:41:13.307-04:002022-04-14T10:41:13.307-04:00Bossa Nova was also quite big in the early 1960s (...Bossa Nova was also quite big in the early 1960s (i.e The Girl from Ipanema).Aidan Barretthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09206683868950960625noreply@blogger.com
