I think early Marxist theorists disapproved of homosexuality because of the latently homosexual hierarchic relationships common among the feudal classes. Tend to be relatively low wealth, particularly compared to the level of education (more homelessness, higher poverty rates, etc.). I don't think gays are actually underrepresented, on the left, in their enthusiasm for socialist government (they tend to be generally left wing, is my perception, not so much fiscally "conservative" / elitist, socially libertine). So I wouldn't be surprised if they were more likely to be Berners. Despite their identity group itself having less specific class related issues, and so in a sense more liable to identity politics, the rest of who they are, perhaps, "fits the profile" for left wing socialism.

(Plus, what gays would pass up the opportunity for the more "operatic" and theatrical candidate?)

*https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2016/01/26/study-suggests-faculty-members-are-disproportionately-likely-be-gayMnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-22342581050388363992016-02-17T09:10:55.102-05:002016-02-17T09:10:55.102-05:00"The unconventional homophobia of socialism.&..."The unconventional homophobia of socialism."
Homosexuality is a bourgeois deviation, as comrades Lenin and Castro statedMarcusnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19346366.post-57419835790289811102016-02-17T07:20:21.378-05:002016-02-17T07:20:21.378-05:00Apropos homos, this is deep in your territory

Young white SWPL producer was listing all the animals that are "known" to engage on homosexuality. Koalas, elephants, impacts, giraffes ... they had just about the whole zoo.
