What is new today is the way parents will not let their children go without adult supervision at ages when children routinely used to go unsupervised. Drive near a school bus stop in the afternoon and you'll see parents in their cars waiting to pick up their children coming home from <i>junior high school</i>, lest their precious progeny walk two blocks alone.
